On March 8th 2014, we had an early start. I was invited to stay at the local Marae, when time came to wake up. At 4am we arrived in Tāneatua for the opening of Tūhoe’s new building, Te Kura Whare. That day became memorable for me on different levels, and the photos will live - for generations to come.”


Birgit Krippner is an Austrian photographer based in Wellington, New Zealand. Her specialty is capturing candid images using only available light.She often works in low light situations, relying on fast lenses and creating very tight depth of field.

She has exhibited internationally, including New York, San Francisco, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Taneatua, Auckland, Napier, Havelock North and Wellington. She was the recipient of the Grand Prix Terroirs d'images, Catégorie "Professionnel" (Professional Category).
Her work has also been featured in the TV3 program “Nightline” as well as periodicals such as "Foreign Policy Magazine", "NZ Life & Leisure Magazine", "Glory Days Magazine", “Metro Magazine”, “BSC News”, Air New Zealand’s “Kia Ora” and “Art Forum.”As a freelance photographer, she is in demand from art collectors, and both corporate and private clients.
